September 2014 Update

March 2013 Update

Student Programs – Please remember to send in your pledge payments for the District III Masters Research Endowment. We are getting closer to having this fully endowed, as several schools have completed their pledges. There are still many schools that have a balance remaining on their pledge. I am pleading with all of you that have an outstanding balance on your pledge, to please fulfill this commitment. My hope is that we can offer this award for the first time in 2014.

If your school has completed your pledge, you can still give to this fund. It is a great way for your student organization to give back to the profession, and it will reward one of our own District III students in the future.

The Schools that have completed their pledge are:

Lenoir Rhyne University

Limestone College

Lynchburg College

Salisbury University

University of Charleston

UNC – Chapel Hill

West Virginia Wesleyan

District III Director to the Foundation – Congratulations go to Jill Manners at Western Carolina University. Jill was elected to the Foundation Board of Directors. She will become the new District III Director at the NATA Annual Meeting in June. Congratulations Jill.

I will not be leaving the Foundation Board. At the NATA Annual meeting, I will become the NATA Foundation Vice President for District Relations. I will be working very closely with Jill along with the other district directors on behalf of the Foundation. I will continue to serve the members of District III to the best of my ability.

February 2013 Update

Two NATA Foundation endowments that are directly tied to District III are very close to being fully funded.  If we can secure the funds necessary to complete these endowments by March 1, one scholarship and one doctoral-level research grant can be awarded to worthy students in 2013!  The amount of donations for the David H. Perrin - Ethnic Diversity Advisory Committee (EDAC) Scholarship is $44,554.64.  Another $5,445.36 is needed for this endowment to be fully-funded.  Once it reaches the $50,000 level, an annual scholarship of $2,300 will be awarded to a qualified entry-level, ethnically-diverse athletic training student.

The funding of the Joe Gieck, EdD, AT Ret, PT Challenge Doctoral Research Endowment has been recently completed.  The Joe Gieck, EdD, AT Ret, PT Challenge Doctoral Research Endowment, established in 2008, provides a Doctoral research grant of $2,500 to support evidence-based research directed toward clinically significant studies to directly improve athletic health care in the areas of prevention, care, treatment and rehabilitation; to identify and evaluate the most appropriate and best practices of procedures, techniques and products of/for clinical performance/outcomes; and to determine the validity/relevance of the evidence.  This is great news to District III as this grant is in the name of one of the most influential members of our profession.

The District III Masters Research Grant Endowment is getting closer to the goal of being fully funded. There is only about $9000 remaining.  This endowment was created to promote, facilitate and fund athletic training research conducted by young investigators from District 3. When fully funded, this endowment will provide a research grant of $1,000 annually to a qualified master’s level student enrolled in a college/university in District 3.

A special thanks to the following Colleges and Universities that have completed their pledge:

Lenoir Rhyne University

Limestone College

Lynchburg College

Salisbury University

University of Charleston

UNC – Chapel Hill

West Virginia Wesleyan
